Here are a few of our favorite reasons to have a real Christmas tree this year
-The Christmas tree scent. The smell of a fresh Christmas tree can warm your heart and prepare you for the Christmas season
-Quality time spent with family. The experience of getting a real tree ranks among the best of childhood memories for so many. It is a strong tradition that can be passed down and shared for generations to come.
-It benefits the environment. Real Christmas trees absorb carbon dioxide and other gases while growing. They stabilize the soil, which helps protect water supplies and they provide a safe place for wildlife to inhabit.
-Purchasing a live Christmas tree benefits the local economy and local farmers
-Its benefits are renewable. Real Christmas trees are replanted consistently (for every tree that’s cut down, one to three new trees are planted)
-Real Christmas trees are biodegradable and can be replanted (if the root ball is retained) or recycled into valuable mulch around garden beds and landscapes.
-We purchase our cut fir trees from Shatley Farms in North Carolina.
-Make a fresh cut. Straight across the base of the tree, cut off approximately one-half inch before placing the tree in a stand.
-Use a stand that will hold a gallon of water or more. Check water often and keep the stand full.
-A tree may take up a gallon of water in the first 24 hours and a quart a day after that. Preservatives are not needed, just plenty of fresh water.
-Place tree away from heat sources, heating vents, fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, and sunny windows.
-Do not overload electric circuits.
-Turn off lights before leaving home or going to bed.
-Remember, a fresh cut, plenty of water, and a bit of common sense are all it takes to enjoy your North Carolina Fraser fir.
